The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost a pitcher from their depth.
The Washington Nationals announced on Thursday that they have claimed pitcher Wyatt Mills off waivers from the Dodgers and assigned him to Triple-A Rochester.
Mills was designated for assignment by the Dodgers earlier this week and has now found a new home with the Nationals because of it. The 6-foot-4 righty will now provide the Nationals with another reliever in their system whom they can call up when needed.
Mills appeared in six games this season with the Dodgers before this waiver claim, where he posted a 0-0 record, a 5.68 ERA, and five strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched. He has spent most of this season in Triple-A, though, where he has a 4-4 record, a 2.41 ERA, six saves, and 52 strikeouts in 33 relief appearances.
Overall, Mills has been pretty solid at the Triple-A level, so it is understandable that the Nationals have decided to take a chance on him with this waiver claim. There is no risk in them claiming him, as he will simply provide them with another pitcher who has some major league experience.
In 44 career MLB games over three seasons split between the Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, and Dodgers, Mills has a 0-1 record, a 6.14 ERA, and 42 strikeouts. It will be interesting to see if he will get the chance to improve upon these career stats with the Nationals from here.
