Dolly Parton makes surprises fans at truck stop opening

Dolly Parton surprised fans at her new Tennessean Travel Stop just weeks after cancelling her Las Vegas residency.

The 80-year-old star, who recently opened up about her health struggles as she scrapped her live shows, turned up at the opening day of the truck stop in Cornersville, Tennessee on Wednesday (24.06.26).

As reported by USA Today, Dolly made a cheeky comment about competitor Buc-ee's, as she quipped: "I’m sure some of you want to know why I wanted a truck stop.

"Well, I couldn’t leave it to beavers."

It's said the Jolene icon arrived at the Interstate 65 destination early afternoon, and ended the brief ceremony by cutting a ribbon over the door.

Guests at the travel stop will be able to enjoy a menu of barbecue dishes, as well as a coffee named Cup of Ambition in a nod to her 9 to 5 megahit.

Last month, Dolly assured fans she was on the mend as she explained she was cancelling her Vegas residency to focus on her health.

The country music icon, who lost husband Carl Dean in 2025, said in an Instagram video at the time: "I have some good news and a little bad news. But the good news is I'm responding really well to meds and treatments, and I'm improving every day.

"Now, the bad news is that it's gonna take me a little while before I'm up to stage performance level because some of the meds and treatments make me a little swimmy-headed, as my grandma used to say."

Dolly - who was due to perform at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in September - subsequently likened her health and recovery to restoring a classic car.

She said: "When they raised the hood on this old antique, they realised that I need to rebuild my engine and that my transmission is slipping, my oil pan is leaking, my muffler's busted and my shocks and pistons need to be replaced. And for sure, my spark plugs need to be changed, because you know, as well as I know, that I can't lose my spark. I know I'm still crazy, but they didn't mention anything about my mental health."
